Welcome

Thank you for taking time to prayerfully consider Dallas Christian School for your child’s education. We have adopted an admissions policy that connects the school to families who are like-minded spiritually, who are supportive of our philosophy, objectives, and standards of education, and whose children meet our enrollment criteria. Our purpose is to serve families that desire more than just a private-education, but instead distinctively Christian education for their children.

There are several strengths that set Dallas Christian apart from public schools and many other private schools. These unique differences explain why our students consistently go on to attend the best colleges and universities in the country, taking with them a spiritual framework that serves them well in life.

First, central to our approach of providing rigorous academics in a safe and nurturing environment is our deep conviction that the educational experience should serve to develop the whole child. This is another way of saying that developing our student’s minds (infusion of knowledge) without shaping their souls (spiritual formation) would only serve our students temporarily; however, when we engage our students with the truth of God’s word (the Bible) and steer them toward a relationship with Jesus, we are preparing them for eternity.

Second, Dallas Christian enjoys the freedom to develop our own academic experience that is not mandated by the state or the federal government. We realize that the current state of public education is centered on state tests that are designed to meet basic skills so that every child will pass. However, this approach is not proving successful for our nation’s public schools. In a recent national report conducted by Education Week Research Center, our public schools scored a 74.5 (C) on the National Report Card for Schools. When we look at the data for the state of Texas, our public schools scored lower with a 70.9 (C-) for K-12 achievement. The public school approach of reducing the curriculum and state tests to a basic level in order to accommodate most of the students is problematic for the students that are above their own basic grade level.

Unlike public education, Dallas Christian School is free to adopt our own rigorous set of standards to help guide our academic experience. We realize that not all national standards are bad. In fact, in developing our program we consult both national and international educational standards so that our students can be academically competitive with other students in our country and abroad. We also have the flexibility to make changes to our program to help equip our students for the changing demands in our global marketplace.

Third, we are able to provide a social experience that allows our parents to feel good about partnering with other parents in our school community. This is not always the case in a large school setting where students come from a myriad of life situations and bring those situations to the school and the classroom. In some cases in other schools, the teacher is not free to teach because of classroom problems or because of students that are below grade level. As a result, the social environment is not conducive to learning and developing. The most recent brain research informs us that a person’s experiences literally shape their brain. It just makes sense to have your child in a school where their daily experiences are positive, enriching, spiritually vibrant, and physically and socially safe.

Before applying for admission to our school, please read the Parent and Student Handbook. The Parent and Student Handbook will introduce you to many of the school’s policies, procedures, and expectations for both parents and students.

Biblical principles are integrated into every subject taught at our school. Our staff is committed not only to academic excellence, but also to teaching students how to apply the truths of God’s Word to every aspect of life. If you are in agreement with the teachings of God’s Word, this school will complement the beliefs and ideals your child is taught at home. We look forward to partnering with you to educate your child in God’s truth.

Sincerely,
Chris King, Ph.D.
